okay i am obssed with the titanic (not the movie but i like that too) ne way the titanic boat sinking part was true however Rose and Jack are purely fictional. James Camron (the director) took a lot of true history and put it in the movie for example the band really did play until the boat sank and there really was a person named molly brown (played by kathy bates in the movie) the inspiration came from the real titanic story where many people lost thier lives because the titanic hit an iceburge. all the historical parts of the movie are indeed true. the titanic sank April 15th, 1912...the only parts that are not true like i said is the whole story about Rose and Jack

RMS Titanic was an Olympic class passenger liner that collided with an iceberg and sank in 1912. The second of a trio of superliners, she and her sisters, RMS Olympic and HMHS Britannic, were designed to provide a three-ship weekly express service and dominate the transatlantic travel business for the White Star Line.[1]

Built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland, Titanic was the largest passenger steamship in the world at the time of her sinking. During Titanic's maiden voyage (from Southampton, England; to Cherbourg, France; Queenstown (Cobh), Ireland; then New York), she struck an iceberg at 11:40 p.m. (ship's time) on Sunday evening April 14, 1912, and sank two hours and forty minutes later, while breaking into two pieces at the aft expansion joint, 2:20 a.m. Monday morning April 15.[2]

Well, it's basically based on a true story. They just had actors replace the people who were in the Titanic. But, mainly all I know is that it is a true story.

The part about a ship named the Titanic hitting an iceberg and sinking, is true history. All the rest is Hollywood.

Sort of. Titanic was a real ship that really sank. That part was true. But the writers added storyline for the characters who populated the ship.

The whole Rose & Jack story is made up for the movie the writers thought it would be a Romantic and compelling backdrop for a tragic love story.

Ofcourse bro, except the lame Jack and Rose story and basically 75% of the plot. But yeah the ship sank and hundreds died. No one found a stupid necklace.
