My Mom had to have this too, on both knees. It improved her life so much...tell your Dad to go for it! Modern medicine can be amazing.

Things can go wrong with any surgery... anesthetics always carry some risk. Knee is more minor though... not like open-heart surgery. See if he can just have a local anesthetic... like they can just put the leg to sleep vs actually putting him to sleep. Depending how exactly his knee is damaged, maybe he could have the less-invasive arthroscopic surgery? Get him to talk to his doctor about his options. I am pretty sure though that doctors try to do what is best for the patient... like what is safest, ensures speediest recovery, etc. I wouldn't worry too much, knee is fairly routine surgery :)

Any surgery carries a risk of complications, but if your dad is healthy there should be no problem. Knee surgery does require a fairly long recovery and it can be painful, so your dad should be prepared for that. If you have a two-story house he may want to be on the first floor for a while. Good luck!

Something could always go wrong but in this case I would say the chances of that happening is slim to none. Relax your dad will be on the road to recovery before you know it. I know how scary it is when a parent is sick or hurt. My father had a heart transplant almost 13 yrs ago. I can remember sitting in the waiting room terrified for 13 hours. All went well but it was the longest few days of my life. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts. Hang in there all will be fine. I promise!

as long as the doctor has ran an EkG, blood work and maybe a chest xray, and your dad is in pretty good health things should go fine, there always is a chance things won't but, knee surgery is pretty easy compared to some surgeries, good luck.

This is a routine surgery. It's done hundreds of times a day. The odds are in his favor that everything will turn out fine.
