ideas for a Summer quilt layout?

I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions on a summer quilt i could make. Anything with the beach or just summer. Thanks

LONGGGGGG time since I did a quilt (hand, not machine).
Ideas aplenty living near the beach.
You can even get fabrics and cut out the 'pictures' and sew them onto a square.

Tropical is good, but not too, depending on where you are:
1.BEACHY:
a.Summer drinks, tropical fish, pail & shovels, sunglasses....
b. All tropical fish
c. All seashells
d. seashells and fish
2.URBAN:pools, swimsuits, sunglasses...
3.ATHLETIC:Sports: Vollyball, softball, badmitten, croquet...
4.OTHER SPORT: Boats & fishing

Eleanor Burns has a new book out called Quilts Through the Seasons. It has twelve projects - three for each season. There are a couple of spring and summer ones that are really pretty, and fairly simple. It's as much about fabric choice as anything. Stick with light, bright colors and white. It looks clean and cheerful. The books is available at Amazon for less than $20. The second link has a better image of the cover - check out the quilt on the cover with the white sashing/border and colored triangles. If you click the "view inside images" button, you can see several of the quilts. There's a fish one that might work for your summer quilt as well.

Make a watermelon quilt. Nothing says summer like a nice cold watermelon. The pattern could be free hand or you can locate applique patterns with watermelon designs. Then there is always watermelon fabric. Good luck. Have fun.
