I will tell you this and others will not agree. If you do not know how to control your pc's firewall you will be SO SORRY for putting Limewire on it. It is a Peer to peer meaning ANYONE can and WILL get into your system or put unwanted programs and including viruses.... I am SO SERIOUS about this. People have things on their PC's and don't even know it.

Despite what the others are telling, Limewire will not work unless you give it "FULL-ACCESS" and that is not only bad but trouble just waiting to happen. I am telling you this from experience and not just from me. NEVER EVER turn off your firewall.

UPDATE:
OMG. DO NOT listen to the comment below me. DO NOT RID of windows firewall. People on here are SO DANGEROUS!!!

I am working on the assumption that you are using Windows Fire Wall. If so, dump it for Zonelab's ZoneAlarm, It's a freeware firewall that is far superior to the Windows version, though that isn't saying much. We see M$ on the news everyday for 'new security holes' in Windows, do you want to trust their firewal? Zonealarm can disable the Windows firewall on install and will probably detect and configure limewire automatically. If not, just double click on the systray icon (by the clock-box with ZA on it) and click on the Program Control tab, choose limewire from the list. Click on the question marks and choose allow. If you start with the next to the last one, under Server, and choose Allow it will change all of them. Leave Send Mail to ask. Thats it. Done.
As for P2P apps being trouble, I've been running P2P apps for over 5 years. The files can contain a virus, but the apps themselves are no more prone to hacking, on average, than any other internet capable app. Just make sure to have a solid anti virus like Esets Nod32, keep it updated, and scan weekly. Scan all files downloaded before use and you should be fine.
Good luck.

Hi there,

This is simple. You can simply disable your firewall by right-cliking the icon in your tray at the bottom right of your computer screen. To disable, you may exit the software or select disable and it may ask you for how long. Another way to do this is to modify the firewall settings to allow this application to run without being blocked. To modify your firewall settings, you may simply accept the access request from your firewall or enter the firewall settings and there should be a tab that displays the sites that you have allowed or denied access to. I have limewire myself and I can run a firewall at the same time.

I hope this helps!

Don't listen to the nay-sayers. Start menu, all programs, assessories, security settings. Then change your firewall settings or turn them off. After you install the program you can put them back on. I have limewire and I have my firewall on at the same time.

you don't want to get rid of your firewall...that's protecting you from viruses when you download. if there is a complication with your computer in downloading, i suggest you just forget the program. don't deactivate your virus protection EVER!!
