Yes, you are a definite candidate for surgery at 51degrees. You are still at the second growth spurt stage at 14 years. These growth spurts are when the scoliosis progresses rapidly. Who knows how many degrees your scoliosis will be when you stop growing. Be patient with your brace-it can help retard the progression. And do some exercises-your rehab specialist or PT can help you. Just keep an open mind about the surgery.

yes. im 13 and ive had scoliosis since i was 11, i was at 21º's and i had to wear a brace. my doctor told me that anything over 30ºs is in grounds for surgery. if you dont get surgery then when you grow old your shoulders will look like this: \ (one shoulder will be high and the other will be low) and you will have major back pains

I had a fusion at the age of 15. I had a choice between a "Milwaukee" brace or the fusion. I choose the fusion.. Glad I did.
