YES!! If you do not have a good Firewall/Spyware/virus protection you can get your computer taken over by someone on the outside without you knowing it...

See the mass quantity of SPAM you receive?.. much of it is sent by innocent people's computers that have Spyware/Trojan Horses installed on them.. the person that controls the spyware tells it what addresses to send email to.. and they send email to the SAME address from THOUSANDS of computers each day.. they do this to tie up computers like those at Microsoft or other major companies...

YOU may have even downloaded the spyware on purpose and installed it as a game.. and then given it PERMISSION in your firewall to access the internet...

USUALLY a good Firewall will stop this.. I prefer ZoneAlarm Security Suite but many people use Norton or McAfee's...

You can find a link to ZoneAlarm on my webpage at http://www.tom-olsen.com/links.html ...

Some VALID games modify their own parameters on your computer while you play and are non-malicious.

Certainly, A feature in Windows called ActiveX allows Windows upgrades, norton upgrades and mcaffee to you benefit. They legally infiltrated and change files and redirect things.

The criminals can also use that Active X and do the same thing.
That is why security upgrades of Norton , mcaffee and AVG are so important.

Explore browser use Active X, Firefoxdoes not. So use firefox and only use Explore once a day to allow upgrades.

That is how that works view Active X go to Security, Active X and see those boxes that allow that thing to happen. Sorry its a needed feature that allows the good boys into the door and also the bad boys sneak in too.
