It's difficult to trust people when you are brought up not to trust strangers. Its the first lesson we teach our kids..."don't talk to strangers..."
We keep this, whether we realize it or not, in our thoughts throughout our entire lives. When we make friends, its not an automatic thing...we don't meet someone and say, hey, you're my friend. We meet, feel each other out, ponder what we have in common, then we either become friends, or not. Its the "strangers" thing in a more adult fashion.

Simply because we have been hurt before. Some distrust saves us from harm. Other kinds of mistrust, that follow a broken heart or a relationship gone bad, can block our path by blocking us from trusting again. Trust in Yourself First is my motto. Promise to take Care of You and use your best judgment!! If someone doesn't trust you then you can take the time to prove them wrong. Trust takes time. But, as I keep hearing from somewhere, first Do No Harm. Sounds right!! Good Luck!!@8-)

Because trust is such a strong word, that people have a hard time living up to the expectation of trust. My idea of trust might not be the same idea of trust you have, for instance trust to one person might mean forever, no matter what the circumstances. your idea of trust might be for the time being. Circumstances beyond our control.

Some of us were badly treated by the people we most loved and trusted to protect us. It can take a lot of time to overcome the grief and anger you can feel after feeling unloved and unlovable. Some people can never overcome it.

Because, according to Sigmund Freud, humans are naturally jealous/envious and only the fittest survive (survival of the fittest). Therefore, to increase our own chances of making it through life independently, we decrease our reliability/dependency on other people (which is really NOT healthy/good). Bottom line is, WE WANT TO BE INDEPENDENT AND WE BELIEVE THAT BY ONLY TRUSTING OUR OWN SELF WILL WE BE ABLE TO PROPEL US TO SUCCESS IN LIFE

We have a natural tendency to protect ourselves, physically and emotionally. Trusting someone gives them the ability to hurt us.
