basically anywhere you get free music, it is going to be illegal, but as long as you are willing to take the risk, there are quite a few options:

Ares (better than limewire, my personal favorite before going legal)

iTunes is the way to go. At least 2 free titles each week.
Also Mixposure is a totally legal totally free music site.
Be legal.

http://www.pandora.com/ is the BEST internet radio station ever.
I would also do a search for 'bittorrents'. its geared towards larger files than single mp3s, but you can download video games, movies, cds, etc easily.

all u do is go to http://www.bearshare.com and u download it.it's FREE!! and u download music & videos & u can IM and send e-mails.it's so cool u should try it.
