You could see if there are any Betta breeders in your area or even people who collect them. I have two myself and I hear that some people are like obsessed with them and like to keep lots of them. You could try giving it to a school but if that doesn't work, some people also like to keep small tanks in their office for like a betta. You could always return it but I'm not sure you'll get much money cause they're not expensive in the first place. It's good that you won't flush it down the toilet.

Ask your friends, family, schools, ect ect! The only reason I have a Betta now is because my friend was going to flush him.. :(
Just don't flush him! Find him a home! I'm sure you can afford to keep him until he finds a good home! Bettas aren't THAT needy.. :)

You could check with your local elementary school. Often, kindergarten classes or the lower grades are interested in having a fish.

Take a look at http://www.freecycle.org/ and see if there is a chapter in your city. The folks here help each other recycle items and pets.

You might try a pet store, but i'm not sure if they will take it or not.
I tried it once, but they told me they don't take "outside fish" cuz they don't know if it has any diseases. (can they REALLY tell if thier suppliers fish have diseases? Are the fish given a check up before they enter the store?) Worth a shot

Pet stores will take your fish back for you, and might even give you some money for him. When we moved, my mom had to sell all of her fish (she had a huge tropical aquarium) back to the petstore. It was sad but the fish got a good home!

Don't ever flush live fish. They sometimes survive in the septic tank for days. Then they die a horrible death getting burned by the toxic chemicals in that water. Its kinder to kill them quickly by clove oil.
