Try C-L-R cleaner or shake some baking soda onto the stains, let it sit...gently rub it in with a wet sponge....you could also try a mixture of vinegar and water in a spray bottle.

Being a landlord with 40 units and all stainless kitchens, I am a little lazier than most people and don't want to scrub. Home Depot sells a stainless steel cleaner/polish by Zep that is a spray on application. Just spray it on, wait a few minutes and scrunge it off like you are wiping out the sink. Works on baked on food, grease and hard water stains in less than 5 minutes. Also, it puts down some kind of barrier that keeps stuff from accumulating again.

I wash my sink with a mixture of baking soda and hand dish washing detergent made into a soft paste with a sponge. I rinse my sink thoroughly and dry with a clean hand towel. The drying prevents water marks. Also be certain to wipe coffee stains and things like that as they occur.

White vinegar is the highest alkaline solution that you should touch and is probably the least expensive cleaner around!

You can also use white vinegar for cleaning car windows that get attacked by salt and road grime, too.

Use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! They are simple and work on almost any surface. They will even take rid rings and circles off of white linoleum or formica.
