Real "genius" is so hard to quantify. The requirement of Mensa is to score above a certain range on some quantifiable tests. The cutoff is the 98th percentile, which seems high, but it means that 1 in 50 people in a random sample of the population would be Mensa material. So, I don't consider everyone in Mensa to be a true Genius. When I think of geniuses certain names come to mind - Einstein, Newton, Hawking, Liebnitz, etc. That kind of intellect is much more rare than 1 in 50.

Pepper, an IQ of 182 is outstanding. Using a normal standard deviation from the mean would put you in the 99.99997th percentile... or in other words, you are one of the smartest 30 people in the entire 300 million person populaton in the U.S. There is a special group for somone of your intellect, http://olymp.iqsociety.org/ , which is for people above 180 (using a standard deviation of 16). In fact, by normal statistics, there are only 1800 people out of 6,400,000,000 (thats 6.4 Billion) in the world that have IQ's at 180 or above. Congrats.

the answer is no. 140 IQ is not considered genius, it is at the exceptional or gifted level. Genius starts around 160, I believe. Even then, true genius is a function of how the ability is put to use. Many people with genius capacity have no idea what to do with it, and spend their time being self-important twits. Others endeavor with their gifts accomplish something extraordinary, or to improve the human condition, and thereby earn the title of "genius." To answer your question, though, most mensans are not geniuses, but they are all highly gifted. If I knew how to vote, I would give a thumbs up to Kevin. Sorry, Kevin.

You must have a minimum IQ of 140 to be in Mensa. But IQ alone, does not dictate whether one is a "genius."

You have to prove that at least 98% of the population are dumber than you by taking the Mensa IQ test.

not all people with high IQ are members of mensa.....it is a useless organization that tries to show how smart they are compared to others... i am not a member of mensa (182 IQ) because it does nothing for me. there are many organizations out there were you can make a difference in the world and mensa isn't one of them.
