Alt + 3 on the numberpad together

i.e

Alt + 3 = ♥

Hold down alt and press 3 on the num pad, then let go of Alt

In Microsoft Word, select Insert from the top toolbar then click on Symbol.
You will be given a huge list of special characters that by clicking on you can insert into your text. From memory you have to scroll right down to the bottom to find a heart.
