I mean it costs less, is more gas effecient, and makes the car more fun to drive. It's not even that hard it just takes a day to learn then after a month of driving it on the street it's second nature. I learned it when i was 13 years old! so it can't be that hard.

The only way i would switch to an automatic is if they stopped making standard cars. You have much more control over a standard car.

Hope this helps. :-)

So who says you can't? All the reasons you gave are good. However, the smoothness of an automatic car taking off from a light is not to be sniffed at. Quite different from a grabby clutch--so often the case with manual. Then there is the incompatibilty with the driving of other vehicles, predominantly automatic. You want to shift to get to the next gear but the guy ahead is perfectly happy at any point on the graph. It's aesthetics man! Dog does not live by bread alone! And with a five speed automatic the mpg difference diminishes.
Meantime, I'm with you driving a stick but not a fanatic.

Manual Cars are awesome. The thing is that AT is intelligent. This causes the gearbox to change the gear at the programmed limit of RPMs. With MT you can do whatever comes to your mind blowing the RPMs if you want: To approach the maximum of the gear performance. Well as you can see, most of the race cars don't use AT, they're all MT excluding the Semi AT that is mostly the same, shift changes in the steering wheel without clutch. I would say that it is much comfortable to drive AT, but Car enthusiasts are always sure of driving a MT

First I have three cars with sticks. Now for your question. There a pain in the butt in slow traffic. I can't agree on them being more fun. My favorite car runs an auto. Gas mileage I don't care. And now that the other person brought it up. After driving a semi all day I had enough of a standard trans.

I love driving manual cars, but in the fast paced life we live it is difficult to eat, talk on the phone AND shift your car in traffic. But seriously, don't do that stuff, if you'r driving, you need to concentrate on driving. The only thing that gets annoying is stop and go traffic, like when you'r in the moving parking lot on the freeway. That's why I drive an auto now.

Because I drive for a living, mostly 18 speeds and after a while shifting gears all the time kinda sucks.

Some people physically cant handle it, or mentally cant handle doing two things at once.

Personally I love it - I currently drive a BMW 5-series - cant get enough driving with that car... I love having a manual transmission...

novelties wears off after awhile.I remember after driving 10 - 15 speeds all day long.

I'd get off work, get in my caddy at the time, which was an automatic ,I found myself air shifting and searching for the imaginary clutch.
