I asked earlier how Kirk or Picard would fare against Good Ol' Darth.
Some people mentioned that the Federation ships were more powerful than the Star Wars ships. I was just thinking about Kirk and Picard because, upon reflection, I discounted their ships as inferior to...say...a Star Cruiser. But...maybe I am wrong. A lot of people said that the Empire would be no match for the power of the Federation ships.
What do you think?

I think I found my answer by looking at anothe question already resolved. Pretty strong numbers for Star Wars technical data.
Can I rephrase this question, please?
Who is more WISE: Spock or Yoda?

With the exception of the Death Star II, the Empire did not seem to have had force-field protection for their ships—or at least, not the same type that the Federation had. And, even that was dependent on an external force field generator, mounted on the ‘forest moon’ of Endor.)

This is inconsistent with the original movie, where Luke, looking for Leia, crosses a force-field bridge over some wide cavity in the interior. This was obviously intended to be used later. Either one of two scenes could be based on this. One: with many storm troopers chasing them, Luke heroically holds them off until Han can shut off the bridge. Luke would leap, or swing to safety on his line, and the storm troopers would fall to their doom.

The other possibility is that there could have been a confrontation between Luke and Vader, where Vader would be tempting him, asking him to trust him. It would be reminiscent of the Killing Joke, where the Joker recounted the story of the two guys in the insane asylum, where one suggests that the other cross from one rooftop to the other on the beam of a flashlight he has in his pocket: “You’d turn it OFF when I was halfway across!”

My point is that this is an inconsistency. If the Empire had force field technology to the point where it was this reliable and could be used routinely, it would be neither too expensive nor too energy inefficient to use on all their ships. So I think that the bridge was a mistake, and that’s why neither of the above great scenes made it past the cutting room floor. So the Empire does NOT have the same kind of force fields as the Federation has.

The Empire has much larger ships and (because they have room to mount them) heavier arms. But I do not think that the Federation ships would have poorer arms. I think that the Federation ships’ mobility and heavy weapons would win the day.

My scenario is that the smaller, more agile Federation ships can do damage to the Empire ships while the fighters that the Empire ships send out cannot reach or harm the Federation because of their protective shields.

Finally, there is the photon torpedo. If doesn’t matter if a laser hits your incoming photon torpedo. If the antimatter is reduced to vapor, it simply spreads out and still hits your ship. The antimatter reacts with the normal matter, and you have a point blank nuclear reaction on your hull. Not a good day.

Tarkin would have been saying, “Damn…! The photon torpedos! FULL SPEED ASTERN!”

Star Trek because of the Borg. Case closed.

You can also go to www.merzo.net to get size comparisons between Star Trek/Wars ships.

Wars has loads of bigger ships, but Trek has better looking, more advanced, and WAY more powerful ships. Look at the Akira Class and Prometheus Class ships. WAY kewl and beautiful. Then you got the Enterprise D (Galaxy Class), Enterprise E (Sovereign Class), the Romulan Warbird and the Species 8472 with their techno organic ships.

Wars ships look all clunky by comparison, I mean, c'mon, the Millenium Falcon? Even Princess Leia and Luke diss Han's fave ship.

I prefer superheroes and live action anime movies like Batman, Spawn, Iron Man, Transformers, and Ghost Rider. But I think The Federation have bigger and more fleet than Star Wars. Too bad they can't put them both in a movie to battle each other like Aliens vs Predators. That would finally answer the age old question.

The Empire would crush the federation any day!!!

And I find Mr Spock as a mor comfortable company than Yoda. Yoda is like too far apart... Spock is at least half human...

Oh, the Federation definitely. For one thing, they have a huge fleet of ships. They also have a more diverse selection of ships.
Federation definitely. Would be no contest.

As for the Spock/Yoda thing. I'd have to go for Spock. for one thing, he can mind-meld.
