You may not want anyone to say Madonna, but the truth is the truth-ain't no way around it. Let's discuss: Madonna was the first FEMALE pop music legend. Aretha Franklin is a soul/gospel/R&B artist and Mary J Blige is the Queen of hip-hop soul NOT pop music - there's a difference. In the late eighties and early nineties when Michael declared himself King of Pop (that's right, it's a self-declared title that stuck), there was only one woman making as much money as he was and selling as many albums and concert tickets. Guess who that was? Madonna!
