I got a question for everyone out there!
What is wrong with people? I mean come on what happened to we are all people regardless of where we are from or what color our skin is? I thought we put our foot down on racism years ago and now it is sneaking back. Our life is one big filing system and you got (^&#)$*&# putting folks in different catagories, I hate catagories, I hate being labeled, who cares what we are, who we love, what we believe in. I still breath and die just like any other person. I am no different, I may light and I may be dark but I EXPECT to be treated just like anyone else. For those close minded individuals I really feel sorry for you, I read a question today about should people from other countries be able to work in the US, well this is a world our world we all live on it so deal, you don't like the fact that someone is making more $$ then you should have taken your butt to college and graduated instead of being a drop-out!

I don't think racism really got eradicated--it just changed form. Like, I didn't realize how racist many Hispanics are until I got to college, and they were like, Puerto Ricans this and Cubans that, and she's too dark, and uppity light this and that...one of my friends said that when she went to Ecuador, she'd get dumped on for having dark skin and she'd have to dress up and wear a lot of makeup and style her hair so she'd get a little respect. I guess if they know you have money, they'll show you some respect even if you're dark.

Racism hurts us all, because if one person is oppressed, we're all damaged by it. Prejudice just keeps changing forms, changing from one group to another...but it's not gone. Not yet.

Maybe someday.

I have to in many ways agree with the previous answer. I've been around much of the world thanks to military time and my job and racisim is everywhere. We would all like to pretend it was wiped away after the cultural revolution of the 60's but it simply changed form. Instead of being so blatant and outward as it once was (not to say that doesn't still happen) much of it went underground. I mean as ridiculous as it seems even hate organizations tried to unsuccessfully clean up their image but promoting themselves not as haters but some form of purists.

I see hate all the time. Their are people that know I beagan my life as a male and hate me for it. People that know my sexual orientation and hate me for it. People that see me with my gf (whom although Italian is quite darkskinned- especially in the summer) and hate me for that believing we are a mixed race couple. Sometimes it's just dirty looks and other times it straight out hateful speech.
Absolutely it's sad. Actually it's pathetic. As time goes on though each generation seems to build more tolerance towards one group and less towards another. Why it seems there needs to be some perception of threat from a group of people I have no clue. I wish I did understand it so I could change it but I'm only one person and quite honestly not smart enough to understand all the reasons for racisim and hate.
I find it hard to be hateful of any group. I admit when I was young and growing up in a region where racisim was more prevalent (it seemed) and open rather than be the hated myself I often nodded along with others and pretended to agree. It was an absolute sign of my weakness. We didn't like this group because of their skin color or that group because of religion or sexual orientation or another maybe because they hadn't been in this country as long as we had. It was all unfounded and stupid. However as I continued to age and grow- I had the opportunity to personally meet and interact for extended periods of time with people different from me. What I found is sure there may be individuals in groups I don't care for (my own race and "demographic groups" included) I just can't see any sense or reason in disliking an entire group of people because we're different. the differences we have are what makes each of us special and unique. We have much to learn from people culturally different than we are and maybe if we all just took the time to consider this and make the effort to actually know before judging it would be a big step towards greatly reducing this problem.

Look dude...my husband did go to college and he graduated with honors. He started his own business and put a lot of men to work. He paid every one the same. No matter where they were from. However, other companies of the same type almost put him out of business because they charged so less. While they all lived in one house of ten guys sending their money back to their original home, living here tax free and every thing else. The one thing that saved my husbands company was his quality.....He would tell the contractor ...Here is my card. Call me when you need it fixed. You know, they did. So get the hell on with that close minded shi*t your self. That is a little tiny bit of the many many weeks of what were we gonna do to survive if the company couldn't compete with the foreign competitor's prices. We won with integrity, honesty, hard work, and quality. God kept a lot of families fed. You have no idea!!! This goes for any other smart azz remark out there about... F. OFF

You are definately valid in feeling anger towards the racism that is occuring today. It is important to realize that racism never ended and there are so many atrocities being committed today in our country in the name of racism. If you have such strong feelings get involved in your community and put them to action.

One thing that is also important to realize is the difference between the "melting pot" theory and the "salad bowl" theory.
- Melting Pot - We are all the same regardless of skin color, regardless of culture, and should be treated the same.
- Salad Bowl - We are all different, with different cultures, they are all equal and should coexist in peace.
It is important to recognize differences and not ignore them. When we recognize differences it is still important not to arbitrarily assign categories, like you've stated.

It's OK, sweetie! Don't get so upset! If you are feeling this way because of Yahoo Answers, its not worth it. It is a very small percentage of the bad apples making it seem like things in the real world are out of whack. Most of us are good people and aren't racist!

Yeah Utopia is 5 miles down the road, it'll be after the Shell gas station. If you see a sign for "EDEN" you've gone too far. Good Luck!

What happened to people today? well, without regard to race, etc, they all got 1 day older from yesterday (unless of course they died yesterday, then, nothing happened for those.)
