Why is there so much misinformation out there about Universal Health Care? Is this why so many people are against it or is it that they have not accessed the whole thing and made an informed decision?

Well first off, the misinformation evolving around Universal Healthcare has been put out there on purpose. This started in the 90s when Hillary took the insurance industry on head to head in trying to reform our healthcare system. As you know, she lost that battle.

The insurance industry has basically circulated every possible falsehood they could come up with. Everything from it being the first step towards converting us to socialist, it would hinder competitiveness and result in a lesser amount of new drugs, etc.., to wanting us to believe we would die in long lines while we waited for treatment. This doesn't even touch the personal attacks they put out against politicians advocating it.

Why? I will answer this with a question. What does it tell you when the 2nd richest man in America earned the majority of his wealth owning insurance companies... Warren Buffet.

I'd be willing to argue that not one person that is opposed to it actually is insured and over the age of 30. It shocks me sometimes when I tell Pol stories about ppl that literally have died from things like breast cancer without ever even getting a mammogram. One woman had lumps, got very sick, went to the health dept, was told she couldn't come back until she paid the $10 copay she owed.

I personally like the when ppl say 'yea but I heard places like Canada have such long lines that you literally die on the waiting list.' My answer to that is 'I'd rather have ppl die on the waiting list than to have to just lay down and die from being refused treatment... in the world's wealthiest country at that.'

My pt of that is that when I talk to ppl that are insured, they just assume in this country you can get medical assistance if you become chronically ill. That's not true. If you are uninsured and get a chronic disease, you might as well go into the middle of the woods and ..........

The one word answer to your question is: propaganda.

We are rated 49th by the World Health Organization and we are proud of it because we have the best of the best in health care. The reason we are not number one is that many of our citizens don't have access to the system, not that the system isn't good. Try to get individual health insurance if you are sick or at high risk. Our health care system would be much cheaper if we made coverage universal. Switzerland has the next most expensive health care and they are half the cost.

I don't know enough about universal health care to answer your question. I think the problem with health care is that doctors take advantage of people with health insurance because they don't complain since they don't pay the bill, an example would be my dentist, when I used to go on my dads insurance he would give me x-rays, a cleaning whenever I went, then when I lost the insurance I went to him to fix a filling and he was reluctant to even see me, he wouldn't do the cleaning, and didn't even try to use his fancy x-ray, and that's the reason my health insurance costs so much

The conservatives are only trying to use smoke and mirror tactics to confuse the public. It is obviously working, Universal Heath Care would be a benefit to all if it were administered correctly. The fact that conservatives have continually tried to make this seem like a bad idea should be a red flag to everyone. Once again, it's just spin.

Define what you mean by misinformation. I don't think there's been much real info on what the plans would be for universal health care. I've seen "ideas" ranging from people being able to get same rates as fed employees (but they pay) to single payer insurance via the government.

Most people against seem to be worried that we'd fall into the same pitfalls as other countries -- high taxes, waiting, rationing of services, limited availability of specilists/procedures.

most that use social health care are democracies... if universal health care was HALF as bad as some say it is... NO ONE WOULD DO IT ANYMORE...
