i have a ford mondaeo 96 its an18l turbo desial when the car starts and is runing in low speeds say thirty mph it is a bit hesitant and is a wee bit smoky out the exhaust could any body advise please

Has it been serviced lately...air and fuel filters, pump timing.
Black smoke in a diesel is unburned fuel, all diesels with turbos will have some turbo lag and some smoke is normal.

Those cars are famous for slug in your fuel lines. they sell an equivilent to standard octane booster, but for diesel engines. ask around it should be no more than a few bucks... I had the same problem with a diesel golf and I used that stuff every month and got 4 years more out of the car. glad i didnt pay that mechanic 1500 bucks.

get a new car, a mondeo aint worth the price of a new air filter

change the air filter too.

Get an oil change and also throw some stuff (STP) in your gasoline to clean out your carburetor if you ahve one.

try having the air filter replaced.

its getting too much fuel and cant burn it up fast enough.also maybe your not getting enough air.check the air filter.
