To be a good CNA you have to enjoy what you do and enjoy helping people. There will always be times when you don't want to go to work or don't enjoy a particular day but for the most part you will enjoy it. I have found that if I am having a bad day I can go to work and my residents may cheer me up. A lot of residents don't take as much for granted as other people do and really appreciate you for helping them with things that they can't do anymore by themselves.

Some do, but it's hard work. The nursing assistant has to do all of the physical lifting of the patient, etc. A registered nurse is more involved with paper work and giving out medications.

When you bust your back caring for pts and you can't even afford your own health insurance, it makes you wonder why you went that route. It's good experience to see how nursing homes are run and it will definitely open your eyes. Try not to get old.

my mother is a cna, and she has her days when she could just choke her patient. but, other than that she finds it rewarding because she is helping people. i personally could not do it. i just don't like changing diapers.
