. . . or even towards the people they are close to? When it comes down to anything, I don't like people seeing me shedding a tear, it's almost like when I feel i'm about to let it out, I need to get rid of it before the person infront of me sees it. Do you feel the same way, and if so, do you think it could be more of a personal experience from the past? or ... ?
I'm not trying to only find a solution to this, or should there be one. . .it's alright if there isn't. Because I also like to understand, if other people have this problem, what other reasons could there be? Just curious.

I used to have this problem. I felt that it made me vulnerable. I was showing some really heavy feelings to a person and I did not know how that person would react. There is a solution to this problem though. You have to let it out. Not to some stranger on the street but to someone you care about and trust. Think of that thing that made you feel like crying, explain it and let yourself cry. It is healthy to let all of those emotions out once in a while. Bottling it up can only make it worse. I do not cry all the time now but if someone hurts me or I feel the need to cry, as long as I am not out in the public I will allow myself to do that.

My "gift" is to cry at any time for any reason and that has embarrassed me all of my life!! You are able to conduct yourself with dignity. I wish I could hold my tears back sometimes as you do and be in control of my emotions instead of blubbering my way through life!! You sound like a very interesting person too!!
Good Luck!! @8-)

Perhaps by crying in front of others would make them perceive you as being weak, which is so untrue, by the way. It just means that you are a sensitive human being with feelings.

I think that if you feel like crying in front of someone, who apparently said something to make you want to cry, and you don't cry is because you do not want them to see that they hurt your feelings. It could stem from a feeling of pride, or self worth, or just fear of them seeing that they got to you.

It exposes weakness and possibly instability. Tears should be a private activity.

People want to be tough and not show their weaknesses. I think it's mostly because many people are afraid of what other people think.
