I usually find the missing sock stuck inside another piece of clothing or a fitted sheet. Therefore, I do sheets by themselves now. I actually bought a clothes line for the backyard . . . on sunny, breezy days, you can't beat it. And all the socks are accounted for.

This is very funny as it happens to me too. I have 5 kids, and use to get very frustrated at the amount of socks we lost. I went under beds, behind dressers/chests, look through toy boxes, any where I could think of. One day my washer broke, and my husband took the washer apart. Guess where all the socks were? Yep, they were behind the washer basket. They somehow got over the washer tub lip during the washing or spin cycles. My husband just laughed at all the times I got mad and couldn't find those damn socks. Now I know the washer really does eat socks.

A couple of the others on here got it correct. A washer has 2 tubs (Inner and outer) and a high water level will at times float lighter items over edge and then when spin starts they drop into outer tub.
As a side note, if your washer has a constant musty/sour smell there is probably a sock of something else stuck in between the tubs.
Another item you may find is that missing set of bloomers.

i've got only asked 2 questions yet I made particular that those weren't abandoned to the balloting gadget. I even have acquaintances who've used solutions and that they have got advised me many thoughts touching directly to the way some seem to respond to easily for the factors so their solutions are many times short and tend to be the 1st. If the asker enables their Q to bypass to balloting, others who're only dealing with and balloting to get the factors will click on the 1st answer and circulate on. that's a tragic concern and that i think of Yahoo could attempt to discover a thank you to alter the order of the solutions so as that factor game enthusiasts won't have the ability to earnings by using the balloting gadget and the human beings who bypass away the questions bypass to vote are penalized in some way.

The laundry fairy takes them. But only ONE out of any given pair, of course. You never have a PAIR of socks go missing....just one of them. And eventually you are staring at virtually your entire sock collection....and there isn't a matched pair among them.

The dryer eats them. It's just like the mystery of hangers...you put a couple in your closet and before you know it you have a bajillion!

I've only done that a couple of times. I think they drop off into a black hole in the back of the dryer. Who knows???
