My son is 4.5 months old and has been on breastmilk only. I tryed giving him formula few times - once at the mall (it's easier), once when I tought he was still hungry because I did not have enough milk, but he does not want it AT ALL! I tried then few more times when he was really hungry - nothing!
I tryed mixing it with breast milk, again no success...
He is getting bigger and my milk alone wont be enough probably soon.
How can I make him start drinking Formula once in a while?
Thank you.

if you keep nursing ...you'll make more milk.

If you suppliment with formula...you'll make less milk.

Everyone says "if they get hungry enough ...they'll eat." and while it's probably true...it sucks.

Go get yourself a breast pump, and pump every two hours RELIGIOUSLY...it will increase you milk supply...not only that...but you can take the extra milk and put it in a bottle and take it to the mall instead of formula...

My baby goes to daycare everyday for nine hours..and all he gets is my breast milk. I pump at work for him and bring it to daycare with him the next day.

Have you tried formula? It's friggin sick...aside from the fact that breast milk is best...formula tastes gross!! I wouldn't eat it...I hardly expect my baby to eat it!

Really ...try a pump before you get into formula.

Also drinking "Mother's Milk" tea daily (available at any healthfood store near you or online) , or brewers yeast, or 1 to 2 beers a week (if you arent' opposed) Really Really boosts your milk supply...like double the amount in three days time...it's amazing!

Your breast milk will be enough if you continue to feed your baby. Some people feed toddlers and have enough milk. But, if you really do want o give your baby milk then keep persevering and offer a bottle once a day, no pressure and if he does he does and if he doesn't he doesn't. Take the pressure off yourself and him. Maybe you could try a different top on the bottle. If you are using Avent bottles you could try a spout instead of a teat and start by almost pouring a very small amount of milk into your baby's mouth and then he might not feel confused by the teat and the difference between that and the nipple. Good luck!

my son drank powder formula when he was younger with no problem, like you said, just when it was more convenient. now that he's over 4 months, he's what i call a booby snob. he just wants breastmilk. what i found, by accident, that he will drink is the premixed enfamil formula. the one with the gold label. my friend gave me some of the samples to try. i know it's expensive but you can get the samples from most pediatricians. plus, it's only a once in a while thing. so, try that and maybe it will work. it's the one they say is their closest formula to breastmilk. i sympathize.

Try a different brand, babies do have preferences. Also are you warming it? Breastmilk is as warm as our bodies are, anymore or any less would be weird to your little one. Don't heat it past 37C or 98F. Is it necessary to wean to formula? Can you pump instead? Perhaps once he's used to the bottle using your milk you can slowly introduce the formula until he's accepting of it.

Not all babies need formula. Mother's milk is the perfect first food for a child's entire first year?
No matter what their size your body will make as much milk as is demanded by your baby.

Why on earth would you want to replace it with an inferior substitute?

i don't really know how to answer your question but i had a friend at work that breast fed and took some kind of hormone that helped her make enough milk , you might want to ask your dr about helping you out on this , good luck

my daughter wouldnt eat formula either and i ran out of breast milk the second month... the only way she would eat it is when she got really hungry and i didnt have anything else to give her.. she eventually had to eat the formula because i ran out of breast milk completely. she now eats it jsut fine.. you might have to let her cry when she gets hungry to the point where she is going to eat it because she is very hungry.

That is not true...unless you have supply issues than your milk will be enough to satisfy your baby and if not then you can try introducing small amounts of rice cereal and get him started on solids.
