...or do you think it is destroying it ?

Absolutely not...there is no benefit and is slowly destroying us as a society and a nation...everyone is so caught up making sure they don't step on people's toes or that some off the cuff remark will come back and bite them in the nether regions that people have stopped thinking with and even exercising their minds and begun to read, act and react from a script. In being factual you sometimes offend a group. Why have we as a society begun to cater to the minority. I thought majority ruled in a democratic society and we need to stop the insistent need to please everyone and to worry of not offending anyone. If you are not offending someone, you are probably not doing your job correctly!

I think it is destroying it. In Australia for example we aren't allowed to sing the song baabaa black sheep because it might offend our indigenous black people. It has to be called a rainbow sheep - blah to that - that could offend the gays.

There was also a case where someone suggested gays may be offended by the name fairy penguins. The place changed their names yet at the same time the gay community was honoured to be named after fairy penguins.

Then there's the good old - don't offend other races. You can't call them this name and that name yet they are free to call us Australian's whatever we want and we have to sit back and take it.

Fair enough there are some times when political correctness is needed but as in the events above - what the? Let's just call a spade a spade - it never hurt anyone before.

It has gone a little too far. It started out as a good idea (it wasn't called political correctness then). The idea was to create more justice. But it's gotten to the point that it is now producing injustice.
It's time for the pendulum to swing back the other way.

Political correctness is another way we confuse ourselves. The human race doesn't know if it's coming or going.

Destroying it.
Political correctness is turning us all into "softies". We're so concerned about coddling people and not hurting their feelings its sickening.
Speak your mind. If it offends people, let them deal with it.
And if this offends whoever is reading it, suck it up.
Its not a pretty world.
