It's dangerous to lift because even though you don't realize it, you use your pelvic floor muscles when you do that. Unless you conciously tighten them when you lift, you will end up pushing them out...which could possibly put you into preterm labor. If you lift too much, you CAN'T tighten them enough, so don't start 'strong man' training now!
Twisting can cause your placenta to separate from your uterus, which would deprive the baby of vital nutrients and s/he could die. IF you're used to exercise and twisting, you can continue that...but when you twist, do it slowly and press into it...don't do it with a snapping motion.

If you're at risk for pre-term labor, the stress can cause its onset. Other than that, it's because your center of balance is several inches out from where it normally is, and you could fall and hurt yourself or the baby more easily. If you HAVE to lift something, squat down and lift with your legs and hold it (whatever *it* is) close to your body.
At 37 weeks, though, I'm not sure how easily you can still squat down and pick something up without a lot of discomfort. I'm 36 weeks now, and for anything over 20 pounds, I ask for help.
Better safe than sorry. Lifting more than that wears me out too much, then I feel useless for the next couple hours.

When practicing twisting poses, twist more from the shoulders and back than from the waist, to avoid putting any pressure on your abdomen. Go only so far in the twist as feels comfortable — deep twists are not advisable in pregnancy.
Heavy lifting also can put stress on your back, leading to intermittent or ongoing back pain. Here are several ways to minimize the chances of hurting yourself while lifting something heavy.

i don't know about the twisting because I don't really do that, but it's bad to lift heavy objects because the more you strain...it weakens the ambelical cord (however that's spelt). If you are used to lifting heavy objects, it's ok to continue, but I would ease it a little. Just don't start lifting heavy objects after you are pregnant. It's more of what you feel comfortable doing, Just know your limits and don't strain or push yourself too hard. Good luck.

Hmm never heard anything about twisting....I would think thats ok.
As far as lifting - not so good- I was told not to lift anything over 50 lbs. The push/strain on the muscles can cause problems.....

No,I did the same thing every time I was pregnant with no problems.
As far as lifting heavy object it causes strain and is not good on your back and could cause bleeding from your vagina (placenta problems).

Lifting can induce labor. Twisting is ok but take it easy. In general excersize is good.
