When land area and water area are heated by sun's radiation,air rises as a convective current creating a low pressure there.The rising air has to decend somwhere after getting cooled in the upper atmosphere and pulled by the gravity.The places where they descend become high pressure areas.

Low pressure is hot air moving up and high pressure is cold air moving down.
