I'm not trying to stereotype but I've been to a few different schools in a few different countries and provinces (so it's not just the U.S) and the lunch ladies at school were always fat and short. Why is that? even on the Simpsons the lunch lady is fat.

Besides, would you eat what a rail-thin person served you?

Er.... the fat part has to do with the fact that they are always around food, so they are constantly eating.
The stocky aspect...... the average woman is 5'5 (there are tons of shorter women than that). If you gain a lot of weight at 5'5 or less, you will look stocky.
