You're kidding, right? Please tell me your kidding. You think the challenges of today's youth are caused by song lyrics? Puh-leese.

About the time you were a teenager, here are a few of the song lyrics that were out (just off the top my head)...
Chuck Berry -- won't you play with my ding-a-ling
Rolling Stones -- let's spend the night together
MC5 -- kick out the jams m****er-f****ers (1968)
and then we'll talk about the drug references, too, shall we...

Some of that seems pretty light-weight now, doesn't it? But it was YOUR generation that started this walk down the path of drugs, free love and disrespecting authority. So let's let the blame lie where it belongs, shall we?

Maybe if your grandkids spent more time talking about what they hear and see, rather than being sheltered from it, they would become thoughtful, intelligent adults who could decide for themselves what is and isn't appropriate -- rather than have the government do it for them.

I understand what you are saying, however the times move and change and in this postmodern world, dialogue is geared towards realism. People do use bad language in the real world, therefore it makes for realistic dialogue in movies, songs, etc.

I'm not saying it's a good thing, but to "wonder what's wrong with the kids of today", this is the line that the generation above yours would have said about you when you were a teen no doubt. Just beacuse you don't understand the pop cultures of this generation, it doesn't mean they're going to turn into a bunch of gangstas

I know that your ears aren't garbage cans, so thankfully for those that are offended, for every song and movie that is released with undesirable lyrics, there is one released that is "family friendly". You can see Happy Feet, or you can see Saw III, you can listen to Snoop Dog or you can listen to Sarah Brightman - it's all about choice.

All you can do is vote with your dollar. Don't buy material with objectionable language. Encourage others to boycott same. Do buy wholesome materials. If producers see that wholesome outgrosses (no pun intended) objectionable, they will go where the money is.

The problem is one of the Lowest common denominator. A wholesome movie that is a hit will outgross a movie with nudity and foul language. However, a wholesome movie may or may not be a hit; it's a gamble. If you throw in some nudity and foul language, even if you don't have a hit, you'll bring in a certain amount of purile audience and make your money back.

Bad language isn't what is wrong with kids today... I use the occasional bad word, and I'm a fine, functional, intelligent 20 year old. What is wrong with kids today is their upbringing.

And bad grammar by whoever brings them up (i.e. you not being able to capitalize anything).

Bad language is a personal choice and you can't go around yelling at everyone who uses those words because that makes you an angry person and which is worse, rage or a few words?

I'm not condoning saying the "f-word" every other word, it shows classlessness and ignorance. Think of swearing as a way to tell the people with class from those with none.

Good point.

I think your question is: "When did we begin getting bad language out of music and movies"?

I think all this started in the middle to late 80's. For both music and movies.

I agree with you... we can certainly do without the foul language. It's been around for so long now, I guess it's here to stay :-(

"Think of swearing as a way to tell the people with class from those with none." - first responder
HAHAHA, sure.and how exactly is it that class has anything to do with cursing? I beg to f@$%^&g differ.

Problem is not cursing, problem is materialism, cynicism and nihilism of our current western civilization. Change doesnt start with changing words, but changing hearts and priorities. Maybe when the young look further than their video games and I Pods( and I m not saing there is anyting wrong with I Pods and video games, just their over use), then we can talk.

PS. Every generation has its strengths and weaknesses. This particular young one has inherited a lot of s*** from the previous ones. Example: Global Warming

Fortunately for we Americans, we are a nation of laws, with a Constitutiuon that guarantees freedom of speech and expression. Would you see that Constitution abolished for the sake of censorship? I am 65 years of age, and my answer to that is NO! Am I tired of the foul language that permeates our society? To be sure, I am. I have young nephews and grandchildren who are exposed daily to this filth... But instead of complaining about it, I face the reality of it and counsel those young minds that is is neither cool, nor smart to imitate what they see and hear.

It's a matter of responsibility for all of us, if we truly want to see our offspring reach maturity without being corrupted by our media.

If you dont like it then you have the right to turn it off, Some people like it and think its fine, so why do you want to take away the right s of the people that dont mind the bad language just so you do not have to hear it when you can chose not to.

Bad language can't hurt people. We have WAY more serious problems in the world today than potty mouthed poeple on TV. If you don't like it, just change the channel.

they are so young. that's the problem. always doing things that kids do, like acting differently from the generation that came before them. it is horrible and should be stopped, but how can we stop three thousand years of human culture? i blame the rock and roll that these kid's parents listened to... the devil's music!
