I woke up at 2am and since then I've been having irregular contractions that have gained in strength. We've tried walking and resting, but no progress. Because of them being present for so long, I've out ruled them being braxton-hicks contractions. Have you experienced this before?? Is this the first stage of labor?? How do I speed things up?? Thanks for responding.

The key to real labor contractions is LONGER STRONGER AND CLOSER TOGETHER. It is up to you but if these are not ALL present then you will most likely just be sent home disappointed if you go to the hospital. Until these all happen you are not in a regular labor pattern...

i had contractions that were irregular but got stronger and they lasted for hours.i called the doc and she told me to go to the hospital to get checked.well i was only dialated to 2 and the contractions were caused by me being dehydrated.which i dont know how i was dehydrated cause i drink only water and about a gallon or more a day.but they were right.they made me drink 4 big glasses of water and juice and eventually the contractions subsided.i would suggest doing that just to rule it out and if youre still having contractions then it might be the real thing!good luck!

I've not experienced this with irregular contractions but if you feel that you are in labor and they are getting harder and worse you should call your labor and delivery unit at your hospital. They will probably want you to come in and monitor you. They will be able to tell you if you are in labor or not.

Probably not really a good labor pattern yet. Try taking a warm shower or bath and keep eating you will need your strength. If the water hasn't broken try having sex if you feel up to it or nipple stimulation to get things going.
It is probably going to be soon. Good Luck
