Dance is like dancing along to music, but it can involve acting (which would usually be in the theatre category). On the other hand, theatre is acting, but it might be along to music (acting is when you pretend to be someone or something you are not). One type of acting is musical acting, and that usually involves some sort of dance as well.

To answer your question, I would define dance as:motion with feeling, a good danser can imitate anything. Where theatre is where actors, actresses, dancers, singers, etc, come together to imitate the life of a script. Good actors and actresses alike can be the good and bad "guy", the Royalty or the poor, the static or round character.
P.S: I am kind of a weird person, but I hope you got my point.
