My friend has three indoor cats and is wondering if there's a natural repellant which won't upset the cats. Would burning a cedarwood oil help? Any other ideas?

Cedar-lined-everything is very expensive. I rubbed cedar oil in my wooden drawers and (yay) my cat won't sit in there either.
