Can someone PLEASE PLEASE show me how you would simplify this: 5x + 4x + 7 = x + 15

Okay, to simplify you want to do a couple things. You want to put all of the x's together, and get them all one the same side of the equation.

5x + 4x + 7 = x + 15

9x + 7 = x + 15 I just added the 5x and the 4x to make 9x.

9x+7 - x = x + 15 - x I'm subtracting x from both sides to get rid of that x on the right side.

8x+7 = 15

8x+7-7 = 15 - 7 I'm subtracting 7 from both sides to get rid of it from that left side

8x = 8

8x/8 = 8/8 I'm dividing by 8 on both sides to get rid of the factor 8 on the x.

x = 1

Remove "x" from the equation, which leaves 5+4+7 =15.
5+4+7 actually =16, therefore x+15=16, therefore x=1.
(As a "caveat", I drive a truck for a living, and haven't used maths since "o"levels 30-odd years ago. But I believe the principle of removing like quantities from either side holds true. Maybe).
[note to yo_ghetto,.. you are clearly MUCH better at maths than I, but that is not an anagram.]

Use the Anagram P.E.M.D.A.S. It means: First, simplify whats in the Perenthesis; then, solve the Exponents; Multipy and Divide from left to right; Add and Subtract from left to right. Try to get all of your "x" variables on one side of the equals sign and your numbers on the other side.You'll end up with something like: x=?
If you still need help:

1.)Subtract 7 from 7 and get 0; then subtract 7 from 15 and get 8
So, you'll have: 5x+4x=x+8
2.)Then, add 5x and 4x together & get 9x. So, you'll have: 9x=x+8
3.)Subtract x from x and get 0; and subtract x from 9x. so, you'll have: 8x=8
4.) Divide 8 from 8x and get x; divide 8 by 8 and get 1. So, you'll have: x=1
5.) The end

Gather the common terms:
5x + 4x + 7 = 9x + 7 = x + 15
8x + 7 = 15
8x = 8
x = 1

arrange all the terms with x on one side and terms without on the other;

5x + 4x - x = 15 - 7

then add the terms with like variables.

5x + 4x - 1x = 8x (on one side)

15 - 7 = 8 (on the other)

so,

8x = 8

now move the eight from the left to the right by division

x = 8/8 = 1

x = 1

Bring all the x terms to one side and all number terms to the other side of the equals sign. Just move things from one side to the other but change their sign when you do so.

5x + 4x + 7 = x + 15
5x +4x -x = 15 -7
Now collect like terms getting:
8x = 8
x =1

Well, I'll show you step by step.

5x+4x+7=x+15

Using the distributive property, combine the like

terms.

9x+7=x+15

Then, subtract 7 from both sides.

9x+7-7=x+15-7

Simplify.

9x=x-8

9=(x-8)/x

9= x/x - 8/x

9=1- 8/x

8=-(8/x)

x= 1

first get all the x's to one side and the #'s to the other
5x+4x=x+15-7
9x=x+8
9x-x=8
8x=8
x=1
