Don't know why I'm bothering to answer this, but my husband, father, two uncles and nephew are all Democrats, and have all fought in wars for this country. And they all enlisted.

Well, all I know is that when I was stationed in S. Korea 2 years ago, we ran out of money to buy paper to print paper work. The republicans may have increased military funding, but it mostly goes to Iraq, and not much anywhere else. Also, as far as cutting the military: the Air Force is looking to shed about a couple thousand troops, becuase they aren't authorized to have the number of troops they do now. That's how I got out of the AF early.

When the soldiers come home many of them are not being taken care of properly.......Haven't you seen the reports about homeless soldiers who aren't being taken care of?
With Bush's promise of balancing the budget without raising taxes .....what do you think is going to be the first social programs cut?

The Republican don't love the military. They love the profits that are made from marketing and investing in the military industrial complex (MIC). Liberals have no problem using military force when necessary, but they have a major problem when wars are fought for profit.

Its a tug of war. Republicans create a budget too high, so the next Democrat comes in and cuts it too low to equal out. Then the next Republican comes in and raises it high again. It constantly goes up and down to make an average just right.

Our military is made up mostly of the country's middle class and poorer people who see it as a start to a better financial situation. Republicans stand around at their tea parties talking about supporting the troops, but they will never allow their kids to serve. That is, the few that want to!

Because it works, it's not a social program, it is a meritocracy and it was the first major institution in the U.S. to desegregate and to offer Blacks equal opportunity (although performance based). Add to that, it is a symbol of U.S. strength, you have to hate that if you hate America and what it stands for.
