North American Union and Mexicans?

Hello. I am sure most people here already know about the NAU. I would just like to know, if this does happen-- how are we suppose to assimilate over 100 million mexicans into our nation? We already have problems assimilating the ones here and the illegal ones.

I don't think there is any way we could assimilate such a large group, nor do I think this is really ever going to happen. Canadians are too socialist, it would require moving the USA considerably to the left, and such benefits could not be passed onto Mexicans without ruining the economies of the USA and Canada. Further the social implications are gastly, it would mean nothing less than the destruction of the American culture and probably the Canadian one as well.

The only thing that might save us is that this plan would by definition require at least 1 major ammendment to the constitution if not several. The supreme court would probably save us from any other law that tried to erase our boarders.

The American people will never vote for such a plan, they are dead set on making the boarders more strongly defined, not weaker.

The compairison to Europe the poster above makes is not a good compairison.

The Europeans have more in common between their different nations culturaly and economically. The North American nations are much much larger than the European nations, and instead of being an asset economically this would be a drain on the economies of 2 of the 3 nations proposed.

Further the EU has taken in a minimal number of countries that can me be considered to be "behind the times". Thus it has been easier to assimilate them to the 21st century, those few nations that need to be brought up to speed will be more quickly.

With the North American nations you have 2 large and stable 21st century nations and a nearly totaly disfunctional 19th century nation.

This kind of union could not work.

There is a sane argument, though i don't favor it, for such a plan involving the USA and Canada. I can see where both countries would lose a little and gain a bit.

To include Mexico in it simply makes these two nations responsible for the problems of Mexico and its citizens who to this point have been unable or unwilling to solve their own troubles.

That is a recipe for disaster, the only ones who would benefit are the major corporations who would exploit the Mexicans as cheap labor, the rest of us would suffer greatly.

A North American Union between the USA, Canada and Mexico will never happen. The U.S. and Canada are both prosporous G-8 nations, while much of Mexico is poor and its government corrupt.

A NAU would also result in the USA and Canada being over-run with Mexicans willing to work for cheap and driving down economies.

The only possible union would be between the USA and Canada, but that will never happen because the two countries are very different in terms of political thought and culture, and there is far too much rivalry between the two.

Why would you assimilate the Mexicans into YOUR country? And I imagine you see the same thing happening with Canada?

NAFTA was the first step, and the countries remain independent. The EU exists with independent countries. Why would NAU be any different?

Don't worry, it won't happen. Canada can hardly keep itself together. Neither Mexico nor the US want to merge with the other.
