1st grab at least 3 big garbage bags
start at one corner/end of the room and work your way across
throwing away any unnecessary stuff
throwing things you might want to keep in another bag
and things you definitely want in the 3rd bag
hang up all clothes that are clean
throw dirty clothes in a pile and start washer
after the room is void of all clutter
make bed
then vacuum ->dust-> then glass clean items
when done, sit back and admire your achievement

I used to be the most disorganized person ever and my room was the messiest room anyone had ever seen for a girl. But recently I've neatened up a lot. This is my own personal strategy:
First of all, identify the worst problem. Look around your room and decide what ONE type of thing you could organize to make the biggest impact. For me, it was clothes. I had clothes everywhere. Once all the clothes were sorted into piles of "clean," "dirty," and "needs to be sent to value village," I could see the rest of my room and decide what to do next. Now I always start with clothes when I clean my room, and it doesn't seem so overwhelming. It's also a big confidence booster to look around and see how much I've accomplished just by picking up my clothes.
The next thing that will probably trouble you is getting distracted. You'll find your journal from fifth grade under a pile of magazines, and end up taking 5 hours to read it from cover to cover. Bad idea. If you're anything like me, you have lots of half-finished projects or intriguing objects in your room. You have to resist the temptation to work on them. You may want to sort your papers or organize your sock drawer or put all your books in alphabetical order, but try not to until everything is done. Just make sure all the papers are in a neat stack, the socks are in the drawer and the books are on the shelf. Focus on the whole room getting clean and tell yourself you can come back to something when you've finished the room.
Once you've put away all the items that are easy to group, like papers, books, clothes, you'll be down to miscellaneous items. These can be hard because you don't know where to put them. If you aren't using something, don't be afraid to throw it out or put it in your attic. If you get stuck on something, set it aside and come back to it when the whole room is clean. For items that you do use often, try to find a place to put it where you can always keep it. Don't change it around, make it consistent so you remember where it is.
Once your room is clean, you have the problem of keeping it that way. Having one place for each thing is the most important rule. You get to decide where to put it, but keep it there once you have. Put it back after every use. Putting it away every day is a lot easier than putting a lot of stuff away every month or doing an archeological dig every year.

It depends on you! What you need to get to when you first get up should be further away from your bed than than what you don't. Your alarm should be set where you have to sit-up or stand-up to hit the buzzer/turn it off. You can place a lamp next your bed on an end table, but it needs to be atleast a foot away so that you don't spill or drop what is on it. How you organize your dresser is totally up to you! Never have your clock facing you. This way you won't know the time when you wake-up. Knowing the time can sometimes make you stay in bed longer. Have your bed across from the door (placed that when door is open the first thing you see is the bed). This way you will always make sure your bed is made. This is the only advice I can give. I hope it helps.

I occasionally have this problem too. Try not to think of it as one BIG job, but a few tiny jobs. First think of what is the biggest cause for the mess- example clotes are everywhere. Start picking up and putting away that problem. Then move on to another slightly smaller problem. Continue on until your room is clean. If you dont enjoy cleaning play your favorite CD or listen to your favorite radio station while you clean. It helps pass the time. IMPORTANT!!! Treat yourself to something at the end like a brownie, a new magazine or something fun to reward yourself for all your hard work.

I would get some organizers like plastic crates, or plastic bins, and make good use of them, put your summer stuff away in the winter and vice/versa with the winter clothing in summer. Try to pick up a little every day so it doesn't get so over whelming when you have to do it. Closets come in handy if you have an organizer, with shelves in them too. Wood, or plastic, ect., Store as much as you can away, and what you don't really use or need donate, or give to someone who will use it, make someone else's day for them, while your making your room more enjoyable for you.
