He went off on his own and signed a separate peace treaty with Israel. He believed he could no longer be able to defeat Israel militarilly so he decided to ask for peace. the Arab world believed that Sadat stabbed them in the back since Egypt under Nassar was such a valuable asset in their fight against Israel.
