I have it set to once a month but is that enough?

it all depends on how much you use the PC if you use it every day then once every 2 months would be about right or other wise just adjust it accordingly. you do need to be care full as doing it to often can and will mess up your hard drive and you may loose all your data. thee best time to do it is when you start to notice th PC slowing down or not shutting down very quickly.

I use a program called Aashampoo Magical Defrag. It works in the background, and keeps all the files together. It does real good.

If you go to the defrag program and click on Analise, chances are it will tell you that " this volume does not required to be defraged'.
So it depends on what your doing with your computer.
