Diet? If you lose weight this can affect them.
Stress can halt the hormone cycle also.
I'd go and see a doctor just in case but its more than likely an irregular period thing.

There's not enough information here to sufficiently respond, but there are some factors that can affect it:

Is your friend anorexic? Significant and rapid weight loss could cause cessation of the menstrual cycle.

Has your friend been on birth control or been treated with some drug that would affect the hormones - and thus cause a temporary break in the menstrual cycle?

Is your friend young enough (20 years old or under) that irregular menstrual cycles could be the norm?

Could your friend really be pregnant and just be in denial?

Any of these are viable possibilities, but the best answer is this: Contact a gynocologist immediately. Even though you know her so well, you and she would mostly be guessing until you got a professional involved. That way, if there really is some problem - potentially serious or not - she'll know exactly what's going on and what her options are.

You can skip periods without anything at all being wrong. Stress can cause you to skip as well as working out really hard. If it is troublesome to her or she's having other hormonal issues, I would go have her go see a gynecologist to be sure there is not another cause. My sister has this problem regularly. She had to get "kick started" to get pregnant with her third. She's naturally very thin which can also contribute to longer lengths of time between periods due to the fact that female hormones are fat soluble and so the thinner you are the less reserve you have. (I wish I had that problem!)

Hope that helps.

One of the reasons why she didn't get her period could be due to the lack of food. When someone is anorexic or bulimic, they usually don't have their periods and when they do, it's just irregular. Another reason could be some type of dramatic event occured (breaking up with someone, death of a friend...) and that could impact the menstrual cycle as well. Maybe, she's pregnant. It's better to get a pregnancy test at the doctor because they check your blood so that 100% accurate unlike the ones that you get at the store.

Are you sure she isn't pregnant? She should take a test if she has been sexually active at all. It could be due to stress, if she has been busy lately, this could cause her period to come late. Also, changes in sleeping and eating patterns can effect the period big time. If she is on any medications this could be a factor also.

Is she extremely thin or athletic? I know very thin and athletic women often stop having periods. I really am not sure of the reason. Her age and weight would be important factors.

There is always menopause, occasionally a women can go into Early Menopause. It might be smart for her to go for a thorough Ob. Gun exam. Some tests might be able to identify the problem.

well obviously she is not pregnant considering you said your " mate" and you are female. lol ( some people don't pay attention real well on here ) point blank, either she cheated on you with a man which is highly unlikely i'm sure. it could be stress, it could be a weight issue ( if she is too thin ) I would get her in to see a dr if she hasn't gotten it in another two weeks or so ;)

It might not be likly but just last week on like dicovery channel (the name was something like impossible diagnoses) that a woman couldn't get pregnant cuz she wasn't menistrating cuz she had a brain tumor. The symptoms were also dissyness, fatigue, & huge headaches. Again unlikly, but she could have died if they didn't find it.

If you are sure she's not pregnant, it may be stress related. She needs to go see a Doc. because it's not normal for a woman to not have her period unless she's pregnant.

Stress and exhaustion are big causes of skipped periods.

Is she on the pill and skipping the blood pills?

Another possibility is a phantom pregnancy. she should see a doctor if she is concerned.
