He will not eat the flake food. He likes live red rosies, but they cost too much. Any suggestions for food types for these type of fish?

Feeder fish are not good for Oscars...Please don't listen to anyone or any petstore who tells you they are, My poor baby (oscar) got hole in the head disease...it's so sad and I feel horrible from him...and sure enough it came from those stupid feeder fish...yeah they love to eat them but if you get ONE BAD feeder fish there goes your oscar...Use the other food items, Crickets, pellets are good, bloodworms and beef heart are very very good for your oscars...Please take it from someone who loves fish and has alot of them...pass on the feeder fish!

If you want to eat truly healthy, lose body fat consistently, normalize your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, and even boost your brain health and energy levels, you may have heard all over the news that the Paleo Diet has been found to be one of the best methods of achieving all of these benefits compared to any other popular "fad" diets out there. Go here https://tinyurl.im/aHLuf

The truth is that the Paleo Diet will never be considered a fad because it's just simply the way that humans evolved to eat over approximately 2 million years. And eating in a similar fashion to our ancestors has been proven time and time again to offer amazing health benefits, including prevention of most diseases of civilization such as cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, and other chronic conditions that are mostly caused by poor diet and lifestyle. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Paleo Diet is that it's a meat-eating diet, or a super low-carb diet. This is not true

Try feeding oily fish, such as chopped sprats, herrings, mackerel etc. Earthworms are especially good food. Just drop a worm in the tank & watch the oscar go berserk.

I agree with the ones who say no feeder fish. We found out that after we had gave our Oscar feeder fish for a month that's when he started getting holes in his head. Especialy the little goldfish because they are high in amonia.

You should feed the oscar a pelleted diet, Hikari Cichlid is good, and they have different sized pellets for the size of fish you have. Also feed them live worms, feeder goldfish, June beetles, crickets, spiders and Oscar pellets.Water temp should be 70-75 degress F.

Mixed, no one food can provide all the nutrients neede for any animal. Pellets made for carnivores, freeze dried foods, and feeder fish are good. Feeder fish do not provide much nutrition so it is best to mix up the diet, but for the most part that is what oscars eat, and when he is 14" he will need bigger fish than rosy reds. They certainly aren't cheap pets to feed.

I feed my Oscar Peas, Fresh oranges (peeled & cut up) Hikari BioGold/Excel mix (his daily staple) & Crickets, Superworms. I have found that variety is the key. Good Luck. :-)
