Why do you/don't you? I'm running for public office soon and I want to get the public's opinion on this.

Not possible. Wars have been around since the beginning of mankind. Political ideology, religion, and land disputes cause most wars.

You can't expect the 3rd world to be civilized.

There will be more wars as the population of the earth continues to grow. In the future, people will be fighting over energy, land, and religion.

I seriously doubt that if you were running for office you would be
A( asking this question B( be asking it on Yahoo! questions and C( would be interested in what the public thinks.

But for the sake of boredom, I will humor you.

I think World Peace is non-exsistent, nor will it ever come to fruition. It's just some term that an over-budjeted musician coined. It has no substance, it has no meaning. It will never happen, and furthermore if someone were to actually TRY to do it, that someone would create a world war. Why? Because that is what humans do. They fight. It empowers us. It helps us to survive. It enlightens us. It's in everything we do, feel and think. The backbone of humanity is the ability to fight. As soon as we give up that mentality, that desire, we've become extinct.

If you are seriously thinking about running for political office, you should be able to understand what I'm going to write down in the next sentence. It all depends upon what you mean by the word peace.

Fanatasism and extremism will prevent it. I hate to be the cynic, but mankind has a propensity to want all others to feel as they do about issues...evidenced everywhere. Look at the United States and its partisan division! How can we expect the world to be at peace when such hatred exists within the Greatest Nation in the World - over their political beliefs?

Do you really want my opinion? No. I read one of the previous answers. It said "people evolve". But no matter how much people evolve, there are still some needs that have to be acquired. Not that I believe it, but I'll use Pandora's Box for example. I'm not quite sure, but didn't she release sadness, anger, horror, etc. onto the world? Well, that's actually caused by people and their different opinion. If you truly want world peace, tell everyone to be the exact same.

World peace sounds great, but it's never going to happen. People are too arrogant, self-centered, and self-righteous for that. And in response to someone's answer that the cavemen used to beat each other to death for looking at each other wrong...how have we evolved? Take a look at our overcrowded jail cells. They are packed full of slugs who killed someone for no reason. What exactly has changed? It's a beautiful world. It's just too polluted with the uglier side of human nature.

I believe it is possible if people become more open-minded, and allow people to be different and not force their will unto others. But like the guy above said-it depends on the definition of peace-because my idea of peace is probably different from a terrorist.

It depends on what you mean...

If you want to know if I think that there should be world peace, then I say, of course. Fighting is just stupid and pointless, and people are killed because of it.

If you want to know if I think that it's possible, then...well...I suppose that anything's possible, although I can't say that I believe that it will be happening anytime soon.

I can't find peace between my family, why would there be world peace?

The best we could hope for is world Tolerance, but even that's a stretch.
