The economy is innately cyclical. Go look at a graph of the U.S. economy over the last hundred years, and you'll find it's basically a sine wave. The frequency and amplitude of the cycles varies slightly, but only slightly. For this reason, I don't really credit Clinton with the boom of the 90's or Bush with the relatively good economy of the present, nor do I fault Bush for the recession at the start of his term.

However, I do credit Clinton with taking advantage of the economy and balancing the budget, and I fault Bush for never once submitting a balanced budget.

So when the economy is bad and gas prices are up it's not the presidents fault, but he gets all the credit when it's good. Furthermore the stock market is not the most efficient tool to measure the true economic prosperity of a nation. It is only part of a much larger equation.

Because of all his tax give aways to corporations is helping their stock. And, just because he happens to be the president. What the government does and say effect stocksgreatly. But stocks don't tell the whole health of the market or the economy.

Presidents can influence the economy and the stock market. And jobs. And wages.
CUTTING TAXES WILL DO IT EVERYTIME.

(Clinton sat on one thumb and played with Monica when everyone was begging him to cut taxes to stop the coming recession. He was too busy having fun.)

for the same reason the dems applauded him when he entered the capitol for the state of the union speech or for the same reason i'd applaud him if i went to one of his speeches...he's our president.

i cant stand and i'll criticize him all i want. but if i he makes an appearance and i happen to be there i'll applaud him...out of respect to the office.
