Ok you know how in songs, some verses are repetitive/redundant? Well sometimes in my poems I'd like to repeat a line and add to it a few times but people complain saying it's redundant/repetitive. Well aren't songs like that too??

Poetry can be written in any way or form. Some poems feel more poetic with repeated lines. Songs ARE a form of poetry, so don't be mistaken by what people say.

You should do what you feel fulfills your vision. There's nothing wrong with repeating a line in a poem, ( or a song for that matter ) especially when your purpose is to emphasize a point. Repitition can be very effective.

DON'T listen to the people telling you not to be redundant. Poems are like songs...they should sing to you or they won't sing to anyone else. Some of my lines are kind of redundant, but they cast different shadows...and I wouldn't give up one.

Good thing Emily Dickenson kept most of her poetry to herself! We might not have them today...they were sooooo different than the usual of her time.

To recover belief in yourself, read several pages of the "Kalevala," the Finnish epic. It's in English translation.

Next, consider another form of repetition in English poetry: Thinking of as many ways as possible to say the same thing. In old epics, when the war chief slaughtered his enemies, "He fed the ravens." "He battened the wolves." When he rewarded his followers, he was, "Ring giver." "Gold scatterer." This is why English has so many more words than other languages. We can't get enough of them.

Yes, but its different because its a song. If you want to repeat in a poem, write it out in song form. Verse, Chourous, Repeat verse, repeat chorous, etc.

poetry is an expression of ones self, so if that is the way you like to write your poetry write it that way. Though there are rules to poetry that make it more pleasing to listeners ears, like painting and drawing, it's from the heart!
