force x distance = work

kilogram is mass

1 N = 1 Kg m/s^2
1 N x 1 m = 1 Kg m^2/s^2 = 1 joule

Its a joule. This is because when you apply a force and it moves you do work. The formula for work is force * distance. Newtons times meters is a joule.
