I need help to the find the molarity (M) of an HCl solution made from diluting 9.0 mL of 8.0 M HCl to a new volume of 50.0 mL. If anyone could help, I would really appreciated it. Thanks in advance.

M1V1 = M2V2

M1 = 8.0 M
V1 = 9.0 ml
V2 = 50 ml

M2 = ???

First the 9.0 and 50.0 mL have to be turned into liters.

Which would be .0009 L and .0050L. And assuming that the amount of solute is the same in both cases. I would fit the known numbers into the molarity equation.

Molarity=Amount of solute (mol) / volume of solution (L)
8.0 mol/L (example amount)= ? mol/ .0009L

Useing that equation you solve for the amount of solute.

When you find that amount of moles, fit it in a new equation, solving for molarity. Which would be that original amount of solute, you have to calculate it, divided by .0050 L. The molarity shound be lower, I believe.

use M1V1=M2V2
so 9*8/50
=1.44

1.44M; don't forget that M is in units of mol/L
