A lot of "best" remain in oblivion.
On the other hand, take "Hilton". Does it ring a bell? Well, I am certain she is well known and not because she is "best". On the other hand again, is she best, at being worse?????? I'll let you decide~~~~

Often times they are the best because they are well-known. Let's take advertising for instance. Advertisers spend millions of dollars on 30-60 second spots for their products. Why? Exposure! It's not that their product is better than any other but because people see their product more than any other. Another example is in journalism. Whoever get's the story first is the gatekeeper, they get to frame the story any way they want to frame it and get their ratings up because they have an "exclusive". Chances are its not because they have the best reporters but rather the fastest reporters. People find comfort in familiarity therefore it's easy to see how they can be the best because they are well-known.

They are well known because they are the best. But sometimes it also works the other way.

Quite often it is assumed they are the best because they are well known, when in fact they suck.

"Over 13 billion served" says the sign. But is that the best burger I've ever tasted? No.

The "best" are the most well known because the knowers label them the best. An unknown could be surpassing the best but if no one knows it, they can't be the best

"The Best" is not always what it seems. I think that there are a lot of people that are "the best" (according to popularity) and in fact they are "the worst". There are so many people out there that are the best in the true meaning of the word and no one even knows their name.

interesting! they should be well-known because they are good but sometimes they are well-known because others are good; i think that you know enough persons who are not so good but the ones who deal with their image are or have you heard about people who steal other people' s merits
