Can't remember title. It was an old movie about an actress who abandoned her husband and children and returns to her hometown later a big star. She stays with her husband and he is not happy to see her return. Her youngest daughter wants to be an actress and is thrilled that this star is in her home not realizing that she is her mother. There was an older daughter who figured it out and just wanted her mother to go away before she hurt their family again. I remember a scene where the oldest daughter is having a (graduation?) party. The guy she likes is there. Her mother reads a passage from a play and is a big hit which makes the older daughter even more upset. In the end the mother and father reconcile. Does anyone remember the name of this movie or who was in it?

This isn't the Susan Hayward movie. In this one the youngest daughter is in high schooland the mother is the main character.
This is also not Mildred Pierce, Crawford wasn't in this movie.

gosh this sounds so familiar but i can't remember the name. do you have any idea who was in it or the year? you could check tcm.com. i'll keep looking. if you find out let me know. it's driving me crazy now.

If I remember correctly this is an old Bette Davis movie. But you might want to check a website that contains old movie titles to make sure.
