You're on the right track: Take the sqrt of each numerator and denominator. Then multiply the numerators: sqrt(1)*sqrt(8) = sqrt(8) = 2*sqrt(2). Multiply the denominators: sqrt(2)*sqrt(1)=sqrt(2). Now you have 2*sqrt(2)/sqrt(2). The sqrt(2) terms cancel out and your answer is 2.
