I have an 1999 Chrysler Town & Country, and as of lately it has been acting up. Please give me your opinions. It will start o.k. then I drive down the road and push on the brakes, and it stalls out. Then it starts up, I drive down the road, and hit the brakes and it continuously does this? Is it because of the cold? Do I need a new battery? The SES light is on due to an EGR problem. Could this be why? PLEASE HELP!

EGR means Exhaust Gas Recirculation, if this valve is stuck open it could very easily be the problem. This valve recirculates some of the exhaust gasses into the engine to reduce NOX emissions caused by high combustion temperatures. It is not supposed to be open at idle. If it is it will cause the engine to die at idle especially when the engine is cold.

the EGR valve allows exhaust to be recirculate into the engine when the engine is not at a idle. if the valve is allowing exhaust gas to recirculate into the engine at an idle the car will stall. perform these simple tests.
1: start engine does it idle ok if yes goto test 2 if not replace EGR
2: apply emergency brake then put car into drive (if emergency brake works). does engine remain running at idle? if yes goto test 3 if no replace EGR
3: apply brakes does engine remain running? if yes replace EGR if no check for vaccum leaking at brake power booster and repair.

after performing these test if problem still exists it would be best to take car to a good mechanic

YA. EGR stuck open( or at least half way)

check if the hose to brake booster is in place.and not loose and leaking...chances are they both in one.
