Even had he believed Saddam a threat, why didn’t he wait until he had developed a strategy, since there was clearly no imminent threat: the CIA told him Saddam would not use weapons of mass destruction unless attacked, and that there was no Al Qaeda presence in Iraq.

You know, without an anticipated attack, or wmd, and no Al Qaeda presence, it would have been considered and unprovoked act of aggression and been condemned as such. I feel now, that he had to get us in fast, while we were still in shock and anger at 9/11, as so many things were done more in fear, (which he played up) than in good sense.
The United States isn't usually known for invading other countries, and that's what this turned out to be.
So he plunged in so we wouldn't take the time and thought to nay say him, and he wouldn't or couldn't inform the people because they would never have supported that kind of action.
I won't speculate as to the why of it or if he knew he was cherry picking the information he did release, I'll leave that for others.

He certainly didn't plunge in recklessly. The first few days of this war were as successful as any war ever. We defeated the intended enemy very effectively. What the Administration (not just GW) underestimated is the ability to unite these crazy people who have been killing each other for centuries from some tribal squabble and setting up a democratic government. It is not unlike the political climate in this country, the Left and Right hate each other with the same vehemence they just use words instead of swords. It is very similar to the Shiites and Sunnis. I think the exit strategy was lacking and we underestimated the hatred these people have for each other, I think he thought that once the madman was removed that the people would be so relieved from the oppression that they would join up and form together to create a new nation, which is what reasonable people would do. These are obviously not reasonable people.

But for you people hindsight is definately 20-20.

Well, first of all, 85% of the population supported him when we first invaded Iraq. Second of all, his strategy was to get Saddam out of power. Which we did with ease. Just because we didn't find a nuclear bomb doesn't mean we didn't find WMD's. There are such thing as chemical a biological weapons which we did find. Bush never said Saddam Hussein was harboring Al Qaida. He said Saddam was funding terrorism. Which was proven that Saddam would give people thousands of dollars for their families if they would commit suicide attacks on certain US interests. Now we have a new problem over there, which is insurgency and sectarian warfare. Far different than what we originally went over there for. Now we have a strategy for counter insurgency, it will work and we will prevail. So for you to say Bush sent us over there without a strategy is innacurrate and can't be taken seriously.

Who really knows why Bush does many things. However, keep in mind that it was still soon after the Twin Towers attack on our own soil and we were ALL very upset. Upset, not only at the terrorists, but upset with our own government for lulling us into a false sense of security over the years. He had to do something...but as we all now know, it wasn't the right thing. Or maybe it was, but all done in the wrong way. Maybe ego...maybe payback. Maybe we can get through this administration without a World War...or maybe not.

War with Iran WILL happen. After it does ask me this question again
It all has to do with the US dollar. The world oil powers are turning away from using the dollar as a medium of exchange .Thsi would be disaster for the US economy as we currently have what is known as a fiat currency

Where did you get your information the back of a Cracker Jack box? This was not a case of turn the other cheek, we were attacked, 3,000 innocent Americans died in one day. If we finished the job the first time then maybe 9/11 would have never happened.

He misjudged the praise he received when he visited Ground Zero.

Both he and Guilliani (and some silly others) think that their actions were unusual. Go figure.

BTW: The next time Bush wants something to plunge he can come to my bathroom.

How can you so blatantly assume that our President went into this war with neither strategy nor support? You have NO idea what went on with his cabinet members and advisors!!!!!
