It's ironic really, people are poor so they feel like they have to deal drugs or steal to get ahead, (and it might be true at $8 an hour), so then they are convicted of a felony which ensures that they will never get a job that requires a background check (anything over $8 an hour) "Do we first: create criminals, then punish them?"
should drug charges exclude people from earning a livable wage?
also give me a star!!!

I think it has every thing to do with poverty, when President Clinton was president there were jobs everywhere. The crime rate went down and so did poverty. But with the Bush recession and his continued policy of trickle down economics crime has reached new highs, yes I do think that poverty has something to do with the crime rate.

In some cases yes, poverty contributes to crime since people may not feel they have any other opportunity than crime. It doesn't mean that all poor people are dishonest or criminals because many do try to do a honest day's work to get by but they still fall through cracks. The minimum wage isn't a realistic wage to cover costs and people have to work several jobs to make ends meet...probably without benefits...etc. Poverty can definitely increase desperation and anger

There's also plenty of white collar crime that shows that it's not just poverty -- it can be greed, temptation, etc. also.

you be conscious of whats incredibly unhappy? on the 2nd a toddler makes a decision to drop out of faculty and 'get a job' is while it starts. Or the highschool female makes a decision to get pg.( She makes a decision reason thats what occurs once you have intercourse unprotected or secure and you do not use it) and drops out and the boyfreind would not decide to assist it and he or she is going on welfare. it fairly is the beginning up of poverty. the place are the mothers and fathers and the place is society saying no way! You stay in college and you have not have been given intercourse may be a initiate?? If an $8 greenback an hour interest would not do it get 2 jobs!! there is not any excuse for the poverty we've in this usa with maximum of opportunites. The poverty is in the mentality of the human beings who desire something for not something and then blame everybody and each little thing else.

Okay you got your gold star at the top of your paper man?
But gimme got shot in NYC on the street corner selling drugs?eh? It is irony when you really study it and I am going to give you something better "World as Will and Representation" by Arthur Schopenhauer, to research his philosophy try www.history.com
the reasons that society does these atrocities is all explained clearly there. Very dry reading but simplistic which makes it histerical to me. Simple as "man will or won't, not can or can't". These are the choices we have in life. But the society depicts the things we react to with all their power and peer pressure. Listen to the Rolling Stones song " Satisfaction" you will get it. That says it all about our society here? But around the world is a different story? There's is a song of rage, and" Sympathy for the Devil" combined, another Stones song. And here we compound the hatred with the Ghetto Boys and Two Short. It all boils down to the fact that men that are aggressors have an insatiable taste. And the fact that they are always complaining about their glass being half full? Whether it is in the White House or the deepest parts of a jungle? Mankind takes all kinds shapes and sizes but aggressors are all the same, we have a choice? The governments are to blame at this point not religion, religion is personal and anyone fanatic enough to use God as an excuse is an Atheist! They might as well join the Atheists and chant their tunes and blame God!
It is mankinds fault he is the raving maniac in the drivers seat, but the government is the backseat driver steering us into an accident. Good luck.

well... at the very least... it causes some... in all the world...

men stealing to feed their children...

I think it goes much deeper than just dealing drugs and creating criminals... it goes into creating poverty and creating an atmosphere that continuities poverty...

and it's no accident that crime rates often rise and drop with poverty rates...

and the war on drugs has probably focused more on the poor than the wealthy... but that's only a symptom of a greater overall problem of poverty in general...

and if poverty is such a great motivator... why is the number in poverty growing?

no I don't personally believe that poverty causes crime, more often than not poverty causes people to excede to do better and not give up. I have heard alot of rich/famous people who said they swore that they would succeed and never be poor or do without again.
I know alot of poor people who are not criminals, they are decent hard working people. I think that poor people who chooses a life of crime is lazy and want to get a fast buck without working hard for it

since the beginning of time, a majority of crime is caused by poverty.

people who lack the means (education or a skill) to bring themself out of poverty within an economic system will usually resort to other means outside of that economic system to bring themself out of poverty.

this is clearly seen when you look at a map of poverty rates and compare it to a map of crime rates.

yes, poverty plays a part in crime but I also believe that values aren't being taught in the homes of many families.

No it is the lack of values that cause crime. Many people live in decent houses, have a livable income, and they still commit crimes because they want more so they can go out and get drugs and buy s-x.
