I can't believe how many grammatically incorrect questions, run on sentences, downright wrong syntax and absolutely erroneous punctuations I see here. I know not everyone is an English champ, but it is truly overwhelming how poorly English is spoken and written these days. It's really no wonder we fare so badly compared to other countries in education. In fact, reading a lot of entries, it is apparent!!

The writing may not be up to snuff, but the content on this public forum is interesting. I overlook the spelling, because I like the fact that people have the courage to speak out, to ask, to define, to live and relive, to grieve, to give advice and finally, to understand.
The neatest part of Y!A is that EVERYONE has a voice in this community. In so many other forums, these people would not be heard. It is exactly these people, who have grassroots knowledge and have lived the hard life, that have the advice that I'm looking for. Everyone belongs here if they so choose and can maintain a little respect.
That's why this is a really great website.

If you choose to focus on what is wrong, is there a possibility that you may not see what is really important?

True. While not everyone on here has English as a first language, there are many who do, and the way they crucify the language is enough to make you cry.

Dat is like v troo innit.

The problem, of course, is that teachers are no longer allowed to teach grammar, because it is not "inclusive" for all the thickos. Everything must now be set to the lowest common denominator.

Haha, I asked the same question a few days ago and got a big mixed bag of answers. Some people agreed; some took offense towards what they saw as me nitpicking their misspelling of one word (I wasn't, b/c who cares about that). Dunno, some people probably just don't look as they type and others don't know what spellcheck is.
